Red Brick Vs Russel Group Universities - what does it all mean?

When looking at prestigious British universities you may see the terms Red Brick University or Russell Group University. These terms mean that you are looking at prestigious and historical British universities.

Attending one of these universities means you will be exposed to excellent teaching, good networks and will have a strong CV. We would always recommend applying to either Red Brick or Russell Group universities.

Red Brick Universities;

Were all awarded university status before World War I

The University of Birmingham Ranked in the top 100 Universities in the world. Placed 75th in the THES World University Rankings.

The University of Sheffield Ranked 8th in the UK, 24th in Europe.

The University of Bristol Ranked 32nd in the world in the THES-QS World Rankings.

The University of Manchester 29th in the world, 6th in Europe and 5th by employer reviews.

The University of Liverpool 6th most quoted in the UK in terms of research papers used by academics worldwide.

University of Leeds 5th for Communication and Media Studies, the University of Leeds business school is considered one of the best in the country

Russell Group Universities;

Russell Group Universities receive approximately two thirds of all funding in the UK so are a good choice for students wishing to follow research based courses. The 24 Universities in this group are;

Although these universities are some of the best in the country, provision varies depending on your chosen course. For example, Aston University (Birmingham) is one of the leading business universities in England but does not feature in this list.
